1944 - 1949
Deus Dominus fortitudo mea.
The Lord God is my strength.
HABACUC 3:19
As "priest-on-call" with the World War II Belgian Resistance "under-ground forces," Father, for obvious reasons, displayed no military insignia on his clerical garb. -- It was only years later, October 2, 1949, that as a "distinguished guest" at New York's annual Pulaski Day Parade, he was given the uniform of a battlefield-commissioned chaplain of the Free Polish Forces, with whom, in 1944-'45, he had participated in the liberation of Belgium and Holland, and who, on December 17, 1946, (photo), from their headquarters in Papenburg, Germany, had granted him, by regimental citation, their Cross of Honor.
